Chicago’s Bauhaus Legacy

The exhibit showcased art and design by students of Moholy-
Nagy’s schools from 1937-1955. The New Bauhaus, School of Design
in Chicago and Institute of Design. In addition, life work of both
teachers and students was shown, from 1937 to the present.

Saul Bellows, Frank Lloyd Wright, Hugh Hefner, Studs Terkel, Walter
Paepcke, Muddy Waters, Walter Gropius, Ray Kroc, Nelson Algren,
and a number of Chicago artists and leaders are featured in Thomas
Dyja’ new book, Third Coast: When Chicago Built the American
Dream.
Extensive coverage is given to Moholy’s Institute of Design (often
called the American Bauhaus). This is an excellent companion book
to Al Gowan’s Shared Vision.
